This is for an assignment that is due tomorrow.

Reblog if you think that Harry Potter should NOT be on the banned books list because it features Magic, sets bad examples, and because of dark themes.

Thanks.

Reblog if you think the Twilight series should be banned because it features rape culture, glorifies abusive relationships, and is just a horrible book series overall.

On Art

This is something I’ve had in my head a while, and a while back I posted either on here, Facebook, or Twitter (maybe all of them, fucked if I know) that life is art. And I believe that. But I feel the need to extrapolate on that. Art is a term we use to describe, most commonly, painting, sculpting, and other visual media. But art extends so much farther than that. Musicians, novelists, poets, they’re artists, too. But, the definition should reach beyond that. What of filmmakers and actors? Animators and cartoonists? Are they not artists? Well, of course they are. But to me, art is (almost) anything that is driven by passion. Not just the common definition of “visual media.” Food is a work of art. Look at chefs like Gordon Ramsey or Emril, who spend YEARS not just perfecting the presentation of the dish, but the food itself. Web designers, programmers, architects, scientists, engineers. What they do is art, too. Life, truly, is art. Whether you believe in God or not, the Universe has a design. In the chaos there is order. Beautiful, stunning, enigmatic, order. And such is life. Beautiful, and enigmatic. And such is art. Everything has a deeper meaning or history. Will we ever understand, truly, what pain and torment Van Gogh felt and turned into some of the greatest, most beautiful paintings in human history? No, probably not. Will we ever know, really, who inspired the Mona Lisa? Maybe, but then there is the everlasting question of why? Why that person?

I often make fun of abstract art. Because to me, it makes no sense, I see no reason in it. But that doesn’t make it unattractive. Understood or not, it is beautiful. To this day, many people do not understand William Shakespeare’s works. But my God is his prose beautiful and moving.

What I’m getting at here, I think, is the epitome of “take nothing for granted,” “enjoy the small things,” and/or “stop and smell the roses.” Life is art. It is the greatest art form. Some of it is good, some is bad, and some is great. Opinions may vary; you may never fully understand certain things, and that’s okay. Art can only ever be fully understood by the artist. The interpretation thereof is left to the next generations. Who will it inspire, and what will it inspire, is completely objective.

It’s funny

We all think that certain things will make us happy. A boyfriend/girlfriend, having sex, a new job, a new car, fame, fortune. Happiness starts with you.

But that’s the hardest part isn’t it?
